Social distancing, self-isolation, separation and loneliness. These are things we have all experienced these past couple of months, and may still be experiencing today. Some may be stuck in another country far away from their families, other may be working in hospitals and cannot touch their loved ones for fear of contamination. It has been extremely hard for all of us. If there's anything that this pandemic has taught us, its that humans are extremely affectionate creatures and can hardly function without the company or warmth of another's skin on theirs. From celebrating my significant other's birthday, to not seeing him again for another 2 and a half months overnight took a mental toll on me like never before. Video chats and phone calls became too painful to bare, forgetting about him seemed like the easiest way out of this nightmare.....but I couldn't. Through thick and thin, love wins. And so when regulations were lifted and we were able to see each other again, we embraced each other for what seemed like an eternity and refused to let each other go. We valued each other's presence like never before and appreciated every single moment we spent together. For a second we were lost without each other. But then we not only found each other, we also found a love and appreciation so strong that was built up from all the anticipation. We are not alone in this experience. Humans alike experienced their share of separation anxiety and ecstatic reunions during this pandemic, and we learned the true value of the people who we missed the most and how blessed we are to have the luxury of casual gatherings. The pandemic has made us more grateful than ever to have what we have, because we took too many everyday normal occurrences for granted.
